| Levi turned 9 this summer and inherited his older brothers bow. After a summer's worth of practice and with fishing finally slowing down we got out on the stand. The first night he had a 10 yard shot and later told me, "Dad, I had no idea my heart could beat so fast." He missed his first shot but the second time in a bow stand Levi claims his heart didn't beat so fast. Still fast, but a little better. This time his aim was deadly. The first deer I shot with a bow I came home and told my wife, "Those guys who snort coke have no idea what a real rush is!" |

| Last trip out for the season. Fishing is still going strong. I suggest you head out to Deepwater and shoot straight across to the west slides. Another good area has been the White Earth Bay area. Fall fishing lasts right up until ice so if your the die-hard tuff type enjoy. |

| Some things take lots of mental assertion. For me it is antelope hunting with the bow. From sneaking to decoying it all seems for out there for a realistic chance. I put our chances at slim but stayed with the program and by afternoon my 11 year old son Jesse held the decoy as a buck came in for one look too many. |

| A new location was in order after a couple of tuff days on the lake. We put in at 4 Bears Casio ramp. Our first stop was just south of Reunion where we put one in the boat from 22 feet on a Little Ripper Deep. Next pass moved up to 15 feet and latched onto two more. After a dead pass we checked out several points on the west shore for 8 inch sauger. Back to Reunion for a couple more fish. Finished with 5 very good fish. Slow but improving. Water temp is at 74 in the river. Dirty but not bad. It felt like it was the day after a cold front, which it was. |

| It took two days but we finally did it. Two keeper walleyes! Tuff fishing for the past couple of days. On the 12th we fished out of Indian Hills and managed to get two 16 inch fish for 8 hours of work. Not real good. Today we moved to the Van Hook Arm and we did put together a very nice limit of good fish but that was it. Weather maybe a factor. Yesterday we had Thunderstorms from the night before and today temps dropped to the low 70's from highs in the top 90's. Water temps at 72-73. Some days the walleyes win. Don't give up. |

| Every year a bunch of guys volunteer to take kids out fishing for half a day. It's part of kids camp and always a great time. Kids are at their best when they are reeling in a fish. We caught a northern and 5 small walleyes. I call that a very good morning if your the one who was doing the catching! Thank you to all the guys and gals who make the time to get these kids out every year. |

| Indian Hills is a great late summer location for deep walleye action. We did not get into the great fishing today but we did manage to put together two limits of walleyes. We pulled lead and switched to fireline and back and forth all day. Our last 3 came on Blue Bomber 24A's in 23 feet. If I had more time I would have liked to fish it more. I will give the GPS location so if you get the inkling give it try. This hump sits right in front of Indian Hills. |

| We fished Parshall and them off to Shell. Next move to Independence and later off to Lucky Mound. The lake seems to be set on 72 degrees and the thermostat is not moving. Tuff day on the water. Just didn't find great fish. We did however find a great day on water. We tried fireline and cranks and later went to leadcore and then back to fireline. Caught a fish here and a fish there but no great spot. By afternoon a storm showed up to the north of us and got the wind blowing waves up as high as 5 feet! A long ruff trip into the dock.Finished the day with 7 keeper Walleyes-1 Northern-1White Bass. Releaseed a tagged walleye. I will get the info posted on the tag as soon as I get it back from Game and Fish. |

| We were out filming "Gone Fishing" today. Perry and I left the Parshall ramp around 8:30 and headed to Shell where our first fish of the day was a healthy 5 that we released. We also picked up a couple of northerns. The big one actually jumped into the boat. Scared the crap out of me as all I could see was that crank hanging out of its mouth hanging up in my leg. From there we headed over to Chimney to film a show on leadcore. Picked up a nice 18 incher that went in the box for supper. Later in the day we got into some really nice fish. Our best best of the day was a heavy 7 that is still swimming. | Watch Gone Fishing at: www.ndlive.com |
Because we were filming we moved all over the lake to put a couple of shows together so no GPS today. |

| Wind was back into the 20-25 mph range. It makes for hard boat control but great fishing. We spent the morning looking around and released a 5 plus out on Shell then went up river. Nothing doing for walleyes where we fished so back to our spot we had such good luck at a day ago. Fishing is so fun. Again the biggest problem was finding fish to eat. We released several great walleyes and one with a tag. When I get the info back from Game and Fish I will post it in the GPS column. |

| Off to Deepwater for two fish and then later over to Independence where we pulled cranks in 25-30. Bombers worked best at 140 feet back going pretty slow - around 2 mph. We managed to get some very good fish in the 20 inch range. Big fish of the day was a 29 1/2 incher. Wind was just right, blowing at 10-15. Water is set at 72 degrees. Wonderbread and Blue seemed best colors. |

| Wind was the big thing for today. 20-30 out of the NW. We decided to brave it and head out to see what was in store for a couple of hard core (crazy) fishermen. It was a good day not to stay home. We put two limits together after a day of hard work. The hard work was finding fish small enough to keep. We released over 15 walleyes in the 4 lb range before we got 10 reasonable keepers. Joe landed a bonus northern as well. |

| Blaine and I headed out from Van Hook and motored over to Parshall Bay for some great action in 6 feet of water. Temps are setting at about 72 degrees and bait can be found very shallow. Right along with the bait is the walleyes. We pulled #5 jointed in Firetiger and jointed grappler shads at 2.8 to 3 mph. Water is muddy but the walleyes are hungry and seem to find the cranks just fine. We finished the day with 10 great keeper in the 20 inch range. |

| We launched out of Govt Bay in Riverdale around 7am and headed North to the east end and fished the humps. Leadcore at 115 feet back running 2 mph was the plan. We picked up plenty of Skip Jacks and small walleyes. Good fish came slow but we managed to put a limit of keepers together that ran from 17-21 inches. Later in the day we moved deeper into 30 + feet using the same set up. Reef Runner Rip Shads are my #1 choice for lead. They simply get the job done. Blue Chrome and Purple Prism worked best. Water is 72 degrees with light winds all day. |

It was already up to a solid 20 and stayed there most of the day except when it hit gusts of 25. Still we had a good time. Picked up a few in the back bay and moved into Garrison Bay. That's where it happened. Kyle hooked into a drag clicking, rod jerking fish and I had no idea what it was. Turned out to be a 25 inch beauty of a walleye. We caught a few 17's and finished the day with 5 walleyes destined for Kyle and his mom's supper. |

We picked up fish right away at the mouth of Hazen Bay on both sides and then later moved to Renner and after that off to Beaver on the east side of the mouth. We found a couple of humps in deep water that had fish. We started with jigs and 1/2 a crawler and then went to leadcore with Rip Shads. 120 feet back at 2 mph in 25-20 feet worked just fine. Finished the day with 10 keepers. |

The cool thing was he did it 40 feet down over 97 feet of water. Later in the day we pulled leadcore and Reef Runner Rip Shads in 23-25 feet for a limit of small fish just across from Hazen Bay ramp. Water temp is hard on 75 with light winds today. |

| Same old story. Parshall Bay is putting out some very respectable fish. We put 10 in the livewell on the same old pattern. #5 Jointed Shad Raps 50 feet back on 10# fireline. This is the longest I have ever seen a pattern hold. It's is going on 3 solid weeks! I'm pretty sure it is about over as it seems to be winding down. Fishing is more work right now as hot weather is moving fish into a summer pattern. | Mid day we moved out to
Chimney and Independence Point. The largest fleet of boats I have ever
seen on Sakakawea are fishing this area. It stretches from Independence
all the way to Chimney. Fish are in the summer transition so if things go
as they have in the past we can start looking for the majority of fish in
the 20-30 foot range soon. Finished the day with 12. |

We put 6 in the boat and then headed south to Chimney for some smaller eaters to finish out two limits. Walleyes are setting up for the summer transition. Not many boats on the shallow flats anymore. Rick landed a very nice 22 incher with a tag he released and is checking with the Game and Fish for information. We moved around 9:30 out towards Shell and on to Chimney and pulled Reef Runners in 13 and then in 20. Released another 22 incher and brought in 8 just ahead of the the thunderstorm. Finished with 8 in the box. Rain kept up all afternoon so I called it a day. |

| Weather was for wind and we were not disappointed. It started out good with 15 out of the south but then a cloud blew in and we had a solid 30 for 20 minutes making for some great waves if you like surfing. We, however were trying to fish. We managed to put 6 in the boat before the big blow and then headed way back in the bay for some protection. We picked up one and lost one before the wind settled down and we headed out on the east shore of Van Hook. One more in the boat and so the rest of the day went. The highlight was two different times we snagged in stuff for a full 200 feet plus of drag squealing fun. One turned out to be a big buffalo and the other we never saw but played the part of a paddlefish. Finished the day with 12 walleyes. |

It was great to get out with Julie and fish together again. It's been too long. Later we took the kids over by Gull and dropped them off on an island. We pulled cranks shallow but no luck. Water temp was a cold 58 down almost 10 degrees. Wind at a sustained 30-35 will do that. We made the decision to move to the south shore where the wind had been blowing and what a change. Temp was a welcome 6 degrees warmer. We started with cranks at 1.6 mph and switched to jigs and 1/2 a crawler. We boated about 6-7 and then went back to cranks in 13-14 feet. No fish until I kicked it up to 2.8-3 mph and presto. We caught fish like crazy for the next hour until we limited out. Reef Runner Rip Shad in Mud Minnow did the trick. |

| We launched at Centennial due to high winds and fished in close to shore till 10 am. Only picked up one walleye. Due to the nasty 30mph wind we picked up and moved down to the tailrace to find some protection. Rose put the first fish in the boat drifting a jig and crawler down current. We spent most of the day drifting a jig and 1/2 of crawler for some very nice walleyes. They sure are healthy in the river. Finished the day with 13 very respectable walleyes. |

| Launched out of Garrison Bay and headed west to Douglas. We picked up a good fish early on a crank and then moved out front west of Douglas. One small fish by 10: am so we pulled the plug and headed to Washburn for some fun on the river. We boated 3 limits and let a few swim but we worked hard and kept small fish. Jigs and 1/2 a crawler worked best in 6-10 feet. Fishing was just plain slow and hard. Some days they come easy, some days they don't. Wind up to 30 tomorrow so hang on to your hat. |

| We left Garrison ramp at 9:30 and fished back in the bay for a while. Water temp was way down after Sundays big NW blow. Later we moved to Steinke bay and put a nice walleye in the boat from the grade. Then it happened. By the time I got a look at the line counter it was up to 347 feet and still going. I made the decision we had better kick it in gear if we were going to keep up with this fish. 45 minutes later we were left wondering how you net a 5 ft long fish. Pictures taken and fish released we went back to fishing 2 lb walleyes. It seemed a little anti climatic after big game fishing. We kept 7 very nice fish with our best at 24. Lots of small fish in the12 -14 inch range. |

Sorry No hot spot today. We worked hard and looked everywhere for 7 keepers. I blame it on the wind from Sunday and the cool water temps down to 58 from 65 on Sunday. |

| Jason Hulm of KFYR and I launched out of Washburn this morning at 8:30. By 10 we had a couple of limits and released several more limits before the day was over. Fishing in Washburn is hot right now. We were in sight of the bridge just upstream. Tried jigs and minnows and jigs and crawlers. Minnows seemed to out produce the crawlers but we caught fish on both all day. We found fish from 12 feet to 2 feet. We drifted downstream and caught fish. We also pulled jigs upstream and caught fish. Around noon we switched to cranks for a bit and picked up a couple on #5 Rapala firetiger in 9-10 feet. |

The fish are always moving in the river so here is my suggestion.
Look for the sandbars that break the current and move up as
shallow as 2 feet. Move until you find fish. Don't spend too much time in
any one spot. |

| When the wind blows at a sustained 30 you need cement shoes just to stay put in the boat. We did our best to fish in a 30 mph E-SE wind today. The east shoreline in Van Hook offered some protection if we stayed in shallow. Started out pulling cranks in 9-10 and then drifted jigs for a couple of walleyes. Later we fished our way back to the ramp in 10-12 feet. We ended the day with 11 keepers. |

| I was privileged to get lessons on river fishing today from Dakota Country Jon Mitzel. We launched out of Washburn just before noon in drizzle and cold temps with winds out of the SE. Pulled cranks and tossed jigs around the sand bars and current breaks looking for fish. We had to work for fish most of the day until evening when things turned on for us with a nice bunch of walleyes for supper. No monsters but great fun. Jon picked up a very impressive norhtern. The river is a welcome change from windy lake conditions this week. If your looking for great river fishing now is the time to hit the Washburn area. |

| Drastic weather changes are not uncommon for June. We are in the second day of a nasty cold front that dropped temps 25 degrees. Water early in the week was a fishy 67 in the Van Hook area. Today we hit 60. Big winds and cold temps with rain don't make for the best fishing conditions. We pulled cranks for much of the morning in areas out of the wind. Finally we moved out to 8lb Island and tossed out the wind socks. With two wind socks and my electric I still could only slow the boat down to 1.2. Jess boated a couple of great walleyes. Finished the day with 8 walleyes by drifting a jig and minnow. |

We fished 8 lb today but don't have a good suggestion for GPS location. Parshall Bay area is where I would start looking. Fish will be going great guns as soon as this weather clears and warms. |

| Weather is the most influential factor in fishing. Today we went from 80's to 50's! Makes us better fishermen. In spite of the nasty cold front we still managed to put fish in the boat. Pulled cranks on the east shore of Parshall Bay south for several miles. Started in 8 feet than moved to 12 and finally 15. Caught some at every depth. By the end of the day we were back in 9 picking them off with everything in the box. We pulled bombers, raps and Reef Runners. Day ended with 14 at the cleaning station. Water was down to 63-64 with east wind at 20+ most of the day. Overcast with rain. |

| We picked up where we left off yesterday with the same set up. Pulled cranks in 8-10 feet on the east shore line of Van Hook south of Parshall Bay. Wind was light out of the NE. With fishing this good some need a reminder that ND does have a limit of 5 walleyes a day 10 in possession. Catch and release is a good habit to get into. We brought in 10 and released a bunch. |

| Launched out of Parshall Bay and got on the water around 8:30. We fished on Flag Point and around the area at the ramp. Picked up several nice walleyes in 8-9 feet on Rip Shads. Later we moved out to a flat and found fish just off of the old river channel running up Parshall Bay. By 11 am we had moved one more time and found fish along the east shore. Every stop we made we had fish. Pulled cranks all day in mostly 8-9 feet using Rip Shads in Wonderbread Red and Mud Minnow. RS 4's worked great as well. Ended the day with 15 great walleyes and as many released! Water temp is 66 and wind today was NW 10 this morning and 20 this afternoon. |

| The east end of Lake Sakakawea seem to
always be good this time of year. I define the east end as: If you put in at Wolf Creek, Govt Bay or Pick City you head North and then fish that water North and East of Mallard Island. Lots of humps, sunken islands and back bays. We got on the water about 12:30 and checked out a few of the regular spots with not a fish. Wind was howling out of the SE at 20 or so and I decided to take a break from the breeze and move into a back bay. Steinke Bay is shallow so be careful but it is worth a trip back in there as fish do like the back water this time of year. We fished mostly in 4-6 feet using Husky Jerks in Blue/Silver. Lots of small fish but if you look around the good ones are in there as well. We finished with two limits and released several small fish + some nice smallmouth. |

Indian Hills ramp this morning in calm water and it stayed calm all
day. Fishing started at the first point going west out of the bay. You
don't even need to start the big motor! Save the gas. Pulled in 14-15 feet
most of the day at 1.8 using Reef Runners in mainly Firetiger and Blue
Chrome. Yesterday Raleigh a local expert fisherman picked up a nice 19
inch brown trout. It don't seem to matter right now for bait. Minnows,
leeches or cranks. I did hear that crawlers were not the best but that
will change any day. Days Total |

| We were out filming "Gone
Fishing"today on the east end of Sakakawea. We launched at Govt Bay in
Riverdale and headed North past Mallard Island to some humps in front of
Centennial Bay. Lots of fish in 12-13 feet but many are small. NOT all of
them though. We brought home 9 and I let several go. A couple of them
unintentionally. Fished jigs and fatheads mostly but later in the day I
moved back into the bay in shallow water and pulled a few with cranks.
Water on the lake is 53-54 but back in the bays it is 63-64. That is a
huge difference so keep the back bays in mind. Fish seem to be all over
the east end. Come and get em. 9 walleyes - jig & minnow 13 ft |

end so rather than give a spot I suggest you just go looking cause your

Hazen Bay has a new ramp
complimented with a new store! You can have it all. Camping, bait, tackle,
snacks, plus still go fishing. I headed west into a stiff 20 mph wind for
Beaver Bay. My thinking was to fish way back as the wind had been gusting to 35
the day before. I hoped to find some clean water not disturbed by the
nasty weather. Not! Water temp had
dropped to 48. Moved around and found fish in 9 ft using cranks on the
east mouth. Later moved to the mouth on the west and that's where it
happened. Fish were in 12-16 feet and I fished in 14 using RS-4's in
Firetiger 100 ft back on 10-4 Fireline. Easy to get a limit today and put
more than a couple of limits back. 17 Walleyes 1 Salmon 1 Antelope |

| We launched out of Riverdale on the
Government Bay ramp. Ramp is in great condition only one other boat was
out. We had light SW winds most of the day with water temp at 53. Our
first stop was just North of Mallard Island on a sunken hump. 3 short
bites with the minnow skinned. Later moved over to the embankment and
picked up a 21 1/4 but that was it. After several moves and a lot
of work we tossed in the towel. 3 walleyes 1 carp 1 skipjack |

No great spot yet but The east end out of Riverdale is that section of water North of Mallard Island all the way to the North Shore of Sakakawea and east to the 83 embankment. This area will be hot by Memorial. |

We had about 8 or nine boats and only fished for a couple of hours but did manage to get a few nice walleyes. The bite was slow but we had nice weather. Gentle wind out of the SW and air temp in the mid 70's. Water is a cool 50.4 |

day. Wind is out of the SW at 10. Frost overnight but it warmed up fast
with bright sun in the 60's. Water temp is at 51. Dirty water after the
big blow caused me to consider glow jigs. 3 fish on the glow and zero on a
org/Chart. That was an easy call. I started in 14 feet and put 3 great
fish in the boat. Largest was a 24 incher that was released. Picked up a
couple of crappies and more 20 inch plus walleyes. White Earth Bay
is a great early spring hot spot. Fish spawn in the White Earth River and
also the rock in the front of the bay. 7 walleyes
