Dallas and I headed out for the North shore straight across from Hazen Bay ramp. We looked in several locations with the electronics and bottom was clean so we began the move west. Several more stops and more of the same, clean bottom. We dropped lead down and fished for 20 minutes and I decided to head east. We checked a couple of more locations and finally settled in on the humps in front of Centennial. 25 feet down with Rip Shads on lead was the hot ticket. We picked up two limits in no time and had several times we had two or even 3 on at a time. Fish were small but I have never tasted a walleye and declared that was too small to eat.  Water temps were 66-67 and the air was about the same. Light winds and light rain all day. It sure can be fun to be on the water fishing.

Fish seem to be all over the humps on the east end of the lake.

Jesse and I headed back into Parshall Bay again and picked up a sauger. I think he had a big frog in his gullet as later we found the gross mess in my livewell. Off to Shell Village and I fed another $6. crank to a Northern and picked up a smallmouth. Off to Independence and one Northern and a 23 inch walleye. Lots of bait at Independence which is sure good to see. Water temps were up somewhat as the overnight lows are back up to the 50's and daytime temps into the upper 80's. It is the time of year we have tuff fishing for a couple of weeks as we wait for the fall transition to kick into full swing.

Fall fishing is just around the corner and keep the above location in mind as it is a traditional hot spot for the big fall fish.

We were scheduled to be in the 4 Bears area at 1pm so we got out and did a little fishing early in hopes of getting into the river walleyes. Another slow day but still fun to be on the water and we did pick up a couple of walleyes and a smallmouth bass. At 1pm we took part in the filming of a couple fishing for ND Tourism, coming soon to a TV near you. It was a perfect day for filming as wind was very light and temps were moderate.

It rained all morning and we headed out for Parshall around 11am. Cold and windy with water temps in the Parshall Bay area down to 64. That's just about 10 degrees in two weeks. We went way back into the old river channel and pulled jointed cranks in 4-6 feet. Slow going for us until we hooked into a rocket launcher. Lines were everywhere and the drag was put to a full scale workout. Maybe they don't like being hooked in this shallow water. A full 2 feet out of the water and perfectly horizontal, What a picture. After the battle we got the Northern in the boat and on the scale, 20.4 pounds. Congratulations Jesse!

Fish are still going east of Garrison in the Centennial area. It was Sarah, my daughters day out. Fishing was not as hot as the day. It hit the 90 mark but water is way down at 66 degrees. I had hoped for wind as it was predicted to blow out of the west at 10-20. It did blow but more like 1-2 mph. We started in 20-23 and ended up in 30-35 with 140 feet of line back at 1.6 mph. Wonderbread Red in Reef Runner Rip Shad was the hot color. We came home with 8 and released several times that number. It is always a good day if you catch fish.

I have been fishing in 30 + with lead. Something that has helped me is to keep moving and consider it a game of intercepting the walleyes as they roam around looking for bait. If I turn around I try not to do it twice as fish most likely have moved on.
See below for numbers to get you started. I suggest you go east from there.

Garrison is still going strong. We started out just east of Ft. Stevenson and fished all the way past Centennial stopping just short of the embankment. The day started with fireline and big Reef Runners which went no where. A change to leadcore and smaller Rip Shads got us into our first 6 fish. Later we changed again to RS4's and picked up several more eaters. Depth for us was 25-30 feet at 1.5 to 2 mph. Mid day I hooked into a heavy rod bending fish that just did not want to come our way. After much effort and some line snapping-hard pulling I finally got the beast up. Northern, wouldn't you know it. I gave it an extra hard pull and a smallmouth launched out of it's mouth and up into the air followed by the monster northern. He just missed the smallmouth which I was able to reel in and release. It did swim away but it seemed a bit cautious about returning to home water. Water temps down to 66 and 10-15 winds out of the NW.

8/19/07 We put in at Ft Stevenson and headed east. 5 minutes into the day and we had our first 3 fish! Leadcore in 30 feet using Reef Runner Rip Shads caught fish after fish. Colors were Wonderbread Red-Texas Red-Mud Minnow in that order. The lake has lost 5 degrees in 5 days. Temps are 67 both here on the east end as well as the river at New Town as well as the lake in Van Hook. After putting 3 limits into the livewell we switched over to fireline and deep diving Reef Runners in the same colors. Same story-fish after fish after fish and one more limit. Some days it is just pure fun to be on the water.

8/16/07  I fished out of New Town Marina and went north of the bridge for the day. Our first night in the 40's and you could tell by the water temp that our nights have cooled off. Down into the high 60's. No wind today and fishing was a challenge. I marked fish and pulled just about every crank I own to see what would trip their trigger, nothing! After a full day on the water I came away with a grand total of 3 walleyes. 8/17/07 Wind was predicted to blow and the cold front was suppose to bring thunderstorms. We got the wind. I clocked it in the boat at 28.3 but thankfully the storms did not show up. We fished back in Parshall bay early and picked up 3 walleyes in the 20+ range. Cody landed the best fish of the day. A 22 incher complete with a tag.  Jim got one dandy catfish that kept us guessing at what exactly we had on. Later we made a move south into the wind. By now the waves expected some respect out of us and they got it. We dropped into a protected area on the east shore and made a couple of pulls which got Jim a smallmouth that should have been on TV. I think this fish jumped at least 5 times. Next move was back to Parshall bay. We boated another walleye, one northern and a carp that actually hit the crank. Jointed 5's in firetiger worked best. Jim kept track and says we landed 7 species of fish. For a tuff day fishing we sure had fun! They say you become your passion. If it's golf you look like a golfer. If it's fishing -- well you get the picture!

It was suppose to be a nice day BUT storms developed early. Myself and 18 other boats all helped take the fish camp kids out for a day on the water. We put 4 fish in the livewell with lead and made a hasty decision to make tracks for shore before the fireworks hit too close to home. More lightning than I care to see was flashing all around us. We found an old dock to hide under and waited out the storm. No wind just rain and lightning. The kids day turned into a very short day. After everyone was back safe a few of the boats stuck around for some more action. Most fish were caught on lead in 25-35 feet. I marked lots of fish and bait. Fish size was on the small side but it was still big scale fun just to be catching. Brian and I finished the day with 10 keepers.

I got on the water early and picked up a couple of dandy fish. One of which was a 26 incher! Parshall Bay is often overlooked in August. It is too easy to move out deep and forget the back bay but several limits of good fishing still exists in shallow water. Fishing is not one after another but if you stay with it you can put your limit together with 20inch plus fish. That is not bad fishing! I'm pulling #5 shad raps in the 3mph range. It seems the speed triggers the strike and is also key to these bigger fish. Water was better today with temps warming up to 74. Wind was very light out of the south.

Wind was up at noon to around 15 from the south due to fronts moving through. I started fishing Parshall Bay around 12:30 and picked up 3 very good fish in the north end of the bay. I moved out to see what was up in the main bay and found out that nothing was up. I picked up Phil and Dillon just after 2  at the Parshall ramp and fished our way back north. No fish, so we moved south. By now the fronts were through and wind was calm and so was the fishing. We made a last ditch effort back in the north end of Parshall Bay, dropped the speed down to 1.5 and bingo. Two fish in the 20 inch range. We tossed in the towel at that and called it a day. Water was down to 71 due to overnight storms and very dirty. # 5 firetiger at 3mph

Brendles/Parshall Bay is often overlooked and in particular in August. We started the big motor to get off the trailer and again to get on the trailer. The rest of the time on the water we pulled cranks with the kicker. 3mph and Grappler Shads in 8-9 feet with 40 feet back seemed to be the best set up. Perch was the hot color by far. Water was 74 due to a cool overnight low in the 50's. Wind NW at 10-15. Every fish but one was over 20 inches!  We called it a day at 1pm with 9 exceptional walleyes.

Lake Darling here we come. Water is 74 and weeds are everywhere. If you fish here and go to another lake be sure to clean up the boat. You don't want these weeds anywhere else! Chuck put us on fish but we did not do our part. He was catching like crazy using a white spinner and crawler. We pulled spinners for a couple of hours for no fish. A change up to #9 shad raps and presto. Two small walleyes and two quality fish that tipped the scales at 6.1 and 5.7. It was a great time out with Ken and his sweetie Danelle.

Jesse, Levi and myself blasted off from Hazen Bay ramp. By the way, they have the best set up on the lake for docks and service on the water. We shot across to the north shore and picked up a fish and moved. Next stop nothing so we headed west to the flats. We picked up a couple and made another move west. The moving proved to be a mistake. I had planned to get a fish at several different locations but not today. We made our last move into shallow water for lots of small fish but no good ones so back to our best spot on a flat and down with the lead. We pulled in 19 feet at 2mph with 90 feet out the back. Rip Shads and RS4's in firetiger and wonderbread red worked best. Water was 72 with light winds until afternoon when a SW wind of 14 got some waves moving.

8/1/07 on the river with a gusty NW wind of 23 sustained and a drop in temperature of over 20 degrees. Water is locked at 75 and fishing is still good. We caught every fish on #7 shad raps in minnow color. I pulled in 9 feet and did not do much looking or changing as we had plenty to keep us busy with the waves. We put in at New Town Marina, which has a good ramp and worked the west shore along antelope flats. Deb works for KXMC and was doing a story about ND Live Wet & Wild. Taylor and Tanner are her little units and we did have fun in spite of the high winds. The river continues to impress me with large fish and lots of bait.                                                GLF Greg Schoneck

Steve and I left for the lake around 10am and spent the first few hours filming around New Town Marina and the 4 Bears area for a DVD coming this fall. We put in at the New Town ramp and headed to the west shore. Wind was light but the temperature was not. We had 106 at one time in the boat! We fished a point and shoreline straight across from the ramp in 14 feet and picked up a couple of exceptional walleyes, one northern and a white bass. With that we moved to the North where I managed to lose two very good walleyes and by now the temperature is peaking so we make a run to the south mostly just to make some breeze. One more lost walleye at the boat. Some days you would think your in a tournament cause I only lose good fish when it counts. Later we moved north again and picked up another good fish, filmed a sunset and came home. At midnight coming into Minot it was still 84 degrees.

Some days I make all the wrong moves. Today was one of those days. We had perfect weather with 15 mph winds out of the S and high pressure for the last 3 days. It's one of those days you figure it will be so fun hauling in the big ones. I got out early and lost a very good fish in Parshall Bay and released a couple of small walleyes. Ken and Tom got to the dock at 9 and we left for our first spot. After just a few minutes Tom had a nice one on but it got off. We made a move to Rodeo and after an hour we made a move the east shore line. Then another move to Shell Village east. Next stop was Chimney and after that a move to the west shore at Pouch. One more move move to the east and yet another move back into Parshall Bay to finish the day with two small fish. My thanks to Tom and Ken who are very exceptional people to fish with. If you have to have a bad day you want to have it with them.

Ken, Tom and I got on the water at Parshall Bay just after lunch. We went south and fished in the Chimney area for a few very nice keepers in the 20-22 foot range using leadcore and Reef Runner Rip Shads at 2mph. We left the area short 4 fish and ended up on the east shore line on the flats. I put down 4  RS4's with 50 feet of fireline in ten feet of water and finished the day satisfied with two very good limits.

Kendra, her dad Harley and I went back to the river this morning early in hopes of getting into the same mess we had the day before. We picked up two very good fish but nothing was coming together like yesterday. Fish move and follow the bait so keep in mind if you don't find them begin looking as they have to be somewhere in the water. I marked lots of bait in the river at all depths. Forage makes for bigger walleyes so bring it on! 4 Bears has a very good ramp and store right on the water for easy access.

We launched out of 4 Bears Casino and Lodge with water at 75 degrees and wind NE at 15. Our plan was to go North and then move south. We never left our first spot all day long. Fish after fish after fish. We could do nothing wrong. If I pulled in 7 we got fish. If I pulled in 12 we got fish. The river walleyes are in exceptional shape and very large. Most were in the 20 inch range with a few smaller and many bigger. We must of tried 20 different cranks during the day and most caught a fish. The only pattern I noticed that was important seemed to be speed. I kept it slow at 1.8 or so. We kept 2 limits and released many more plus 7 northerns and a bunch of White Bass.

Chuck was reeling in a heavy fish which we could tell was a northern. When it got close to the boat we both realized it had a very big walleye in its mouth which had hit Chuck's crank. By the time I got it together and reached for the net the monster let go. This walleye was no small fish. 18 inches of river walleye is a lot to swallow! The northern to the right is a small one compared to the giant that was trying to eat Chucks fish. We released the walleye and hopefully it will recover.

On the water before 6am this morning to shoot a sunrise. Wow is the humidity high. The  only thing higher is the temperature. Water this morning was 72 and air temp this afternoon 97. We fished several different places on the North shore and found fish at all of them except the pump house. Stayed in 15-16 feet most of the day and pulled fireline and Reef Runners. Best color was spotted frog followed by Wonderbread Red. We gave up at 9 walleyes and came home early. Wind was light until 11 when it came up out of the SE at 12-15.

David, Bill and myself left the dock at around 8am and moved back into the end of Parshall Bay. Wind was 15-20 from the South so by all rights fishing should be good back there. WRONG! We picked up 3 and lost one. By mid-morning we had made several moves to the south in shallow water. Still no luck. We moved out to 15 and then to 20 for more of the same. By now we are back North by Gull and wind is up to 25 with some pretty respectable rollers. One walleye more in 12 feet on a Reef Runner Rip Shad. The last move was back into Parshall Bay but to no avail. Finished the day with 4 walleyes and 3 tired fishermen.  Water is a strong 72+ which is good to see.

We launched out of Garrison Bay at 7am and headed west. Wind was up to 15 + so we found a bay with the waves washing into it and figured no self respecting walleye could resist such a perfect set up. WRONG! Next move was west of Douglas Bay and out deeper. We marked fish in 20-22 feet so we put the leadcore down with a menagerie of lures attached. Firetiger was the sweet ticket today and with a few moves up and down we settled in at about 16 feet for a two limit day. Wind settled in at 10-15 with temps in the 80's. Water is finally warming up and was 72 this morning.

We woke up to rain and a nasty cold front with ugly east winds! The plan was to film for "Gone Fishing" today so we pulled on the rain gear and loaded up. Started the program in Parshall Bay for a grand total of zero. Off to the grade in the Hook for another strike out. Finally we put a fish in the boat even if it was small. By 11 it had started to clear and presto we landed two good walleyes. We picked up my wife Julie at 12:30 to do a husband and wife show. We no more and got started and she had a very nice fish on only to lose it at the boat. We fished and fished and fished and more of nothing is still nothing. A move was in order and as soon as we got in the water she had another very good walleye on. You guessed it! This one got off at the boat as well. This stuff only happens when you in a tournament or trying to film. We did manage to get several keepers and by the end of the day Julie got a good fish on and I managed to get it in the net. Some days fishing is mostly work!

Van Hook in the NW corner is still producing walleyes. I fished the grade for 2 passes and 4 fish. We moved out just a little from the grade and found fish on a hump and then pulled around an island and found fish there. Wind was South at 8 mph and water set at 71 degrees. I had the speed up again today at 3mph and pulled jointed 5's and Reef Runner Rip Shads. By afternoon the temp was up to the high 90's and wind had gone down to zero! Hot on the water but we had a very good batch of 10 walleyes.

Wind was North at 15 with water temps up at 72 degrees. We fished Parshall Bay in the back water with #5 jointed shad raps. What an afternoon. Four really good walleyes, one exceptional Northern and a Dakota Golden Hybrid Walleye! Cranking the back bays and speed seem to be the best pattern for me. I like to get the jointed lures up to 3mph and keep it fast. There is a lot of junk in the water from all the grass washing into the lake but I'll take it. All this flooded vegetation is making Sakakawea a mighty fine fish nursery.

Levi and I got on the water around 7 am and headed east from Garrison Bay. We picked up a few little fish in back bays on cranks and then made the move to the west way back into Douglas. Water is very cold in the back water at a low temp of 65-66. Slow fishing shallow so we started to look deeper and for warmer water. The front of Douglas on the west shore showed fish in the 20-25 foot range so we pulled some cranks but no luck so we made one more switch to leadcore and YES finally we had a pattern that put some fish in the boat. 100 feet of lead at 2mph in 20-22 feet with Reef Runner Rip Shads. Wind was 2-3 out of the SE with air temp at 80. Water in front of Douglas was 68. We kept 8 for eating!

The wind picked up last night as some impressive storms blasted through. Fishing was a bit slower but the only way you could call it slow was by the comparison to yesterday which was a phenomenal day on the water. The summer bite is in full swing and even storms cant slow it down. The bite should last for several weeks and stay shallow well into late July. Another day of 3 limits pulling cranks. Fish are everywhere so if you don't have fish where you stop pick up and move until you find them.

We launched out onto Lake Sakakawea and pulled cranks for the day. Reef Runner Rip Shads were the best crank by far. Fished mostly in 7-8 feet of water pulling at almost any speed you can name. We caught fish at 3mph and we caught fish at 1.5 when I slowed down to bring in the fish. The highlight of the day was Gerry fighting a huge Paddlefish he caught on a crank. Ended the day with 3 limits of great walleyes.

We were out filming "Gone Fishing" today in the Van Hook Arm. On the water at 7:45 and we were 6 fish into the day before 8:15 am. We pulled up lines and made a run for the truck to dodge a thunderstorm and got back out on the water around 10:30. Even a big storm couldn't shut down the bite. Fish came easy with cranks  in 8-10 feet of water. The entire Van Hook Arm is going strong. Summer Transition is here! VAN HOOK ARM

We were out filming today for a DVD I'm producing on how to fish Lake Sakakawea. What a day to be on the water. Winds were S-SE at 5-8 and temps started out cool but climbed all day. Fishing was fantastic! Every place we stopped we caught fish. The day began at 8# on the south end for several fish in 15 feet on cranks. Later we moved to the north end of 8# and got more fish. The next move was to the west end of Shell in 12-13 feet. You guessed it, more fish. Off to the east end of Shell for what proved to be the  best location of the day  but only because we stayed there longer than the other locations. Next we moved deep into 24 feet on the east shoreline and found deep fish. We ended the day back shallow in Parshall Bay with a triple!  We fished most of the day in 8-9 feet pulling Reef Runner Rip Shads. Red  & White or Firetiger were the best colors.
We met Brandon at the cleaning station and someone cleaned his 20 incher before they could get a picture so he borrowed one of ours for the photo.

Yesterday the wind picked up to a sustained 41mph out of the west. Temps dropped into the mid 50's as well so I didn't have too high of expectations on the way  out this morning. We put in at Van Hook  with water temps in the low  60's and headed east. I started in about 8 feet but it was empty so we moved out to 15 and immediately started marking fish. A switch to 24A bombers got the day going but fish came one at a time and only after working for them. I kept the speed down at 2mph or lower. Later I moved back up to 8 feet where we picked up two on Rip Shads but then it went dead so one final move out to 24 feet and we picked up 5 fast fish on Reef Runner deep divers. We finished the day with 15 walleyes and 1 White Bass.

The trio left the downstream ramp at the tailrace on a mission to shoot Gone Fishing and do a story for the Bismarck Tribune. Rich Hinton, the Tribune writer chronicles the day and does an excellent job of getting the facts and how to info passed on. Galen d spent the day watching me fish. The most boring job in the world when I'm not catching like today. We started in the 2nd coal vein for two hours and got zip. We moved downstream and pulled cranks and snagged a carp but no walleyes. Moved down to the cable crossing and WOW I caught one fish while all the other boats hauled them in. Days total was two walleyes, one Gone Fishing and a bad day fishing recorded in history by the Bismarck Tribune. Well, you know what I say: A bad day fishing is a bad day fishing. I will just have to get out and try again. Picture is same fish as below. We got the ladies to show off a little.

We were on the water early with one of those perfect mornings. No clouds, lots of sun and light winds. We spent the first hour jigging just above the GRE boat ramp in a back water area. No fish for us so we moved downstream and picked up a couple. One more move and we found a sandy flat area with no weeds, no snags and lots of walleyes. SR5 in Firetiger and Husky Jerks seemed to be the ticket. We pulled upstream at 2 mph and turned around and pulled downstream at 3-4 and got fish both ways. Stanton River fishing is hot!

Yesterdays very hot weather brought up the water temps considerably. 69 degrees in the back bay at Parshall. Overnight winds has things stirred up a bit. Tumbleweeds were blown in and constantly a nuisance. I was told Parshall had winds clocked at 70 mph.  We left the ramp at 8:30 and at 10:21 we had 3 limits. Fish were everywhere we went along the east shoreline in Parshall Bay all the way south to Johnsons. Miles of walleyes in 7-8 feet of water. I pulled Rip Shads and Shad Raps most of the day. Firetiger was best and 2.7 mph for speed. The rain started about noon but we stuck it out till 3:30 and called it a day. The summer bite is on!!!

Geremy and I were out filming for ND Live, Wet & Wild again today. We had great weather with high 70's and water in the 64 degree range. Wind was S SE at 10-15. We started at Flag and picked up 3. One 20 1/2 incher was tagged. It is always fun to catch a tagged fish, take the number and release the walleye. History can be fun. We moved over to Gull to film the area and while we were at the ramp we pulled some cranks to the west maybe 200 yards or so. Fish were hot to go as we had 3 in ten minutes with a double to get us started. I pulled #5 jointed in firetiger and RS4's in blue silver at 2.2 mph.

We were up filming for ND Live Wet & Wild in the Parshall area. It sure is good to see the lake rising and flooding into all the vegetation. Does the future ever look promising right now. Weather was as close to perfect as it gets with light winds out of the south. Temps in the 70's and water is at 64. The bite is on we pulled cranks on the east shore line of Parshall all the way south toward Shell. Boats were clustered all in groups everywhere in Van Hook. At our best spot we got to watch a group of three land a 29 incher! Even better we got to watch them release the monster. Way to go guys!!! Picture is friends out on Sunday.

Fishing is good  all over the lake as the summer transition is going into effect. I would start shallow like 6 ft and work deeper into 13 if need be.

I woke up to 35 mph winds and rain. By the time I crossed the dam wind had picked up to the lower 40's. The tailrace was flowing sediment stirred up by the wind. The only fish I saw caught was by pelican! I threw in the towel at noon. Everyone I talked to was excited about the bite which will be back to normal by this weekend. The cable crossing which is downstream about 7 1/2 miles is hot. The second coal vein is also going strong. Just drift it with jigs. The honey hole is also hot right now and if that is not enough the rocks at sunset are producing big walleyes and trout.

I have been out of the office and not getting reports finished like I hoped. Sakakawea has been good fishing when weather allows. The east end is producing good numbers of smaller fish and the occasional 3-4 pounder. Van Hook is strong with fish moving shallower and that means the fantastic summer bite is just days away. Off to the Tailrace tomorrow for www.ndlive.com Wouldn't you know it. 90 % chance of sever thunderstorms with gusts to 41. Hang on to your hat. This weekend I will be in the Van Hook Parshall area shooting video for a DVD on how to fish Sakakawea. Weather looks more promising for the weekend. Picture is from DL over the past weekend.

Fish are moving shallow and that means great fishing and a move to nightcrawlers soon.

I was out today with all the clothes I can layer on and still got numb fingers and toes. Wind blew out of the NW at 25 with gusts into the lower 30's. I only put 3 walleyes into the boat all day. I did manage to drink all of my coffee by noon. It never fails, every spring I go out and freeze my but off for nothing at least a couple of times. Fishing will be improving as soon as this weather gets turned around. We have had rain and cold all week and it is predicted through the weekend.

A group of Swedish writers were in town complements of ND Tourism. We got them out on the water for a few hours of fishing. Wind, cold and rain combined with a huge front was the first thing to greet us on the open lake. We started at Garrison Bay but ended up moving to the east end. Mikeal, a magazine write for FISKE FOR ALLA (Fish for All) caught his first ever in his life, honest to goodness Sakakawea Walleye! Way to go! We even had a bonus 25 incher we were able to release. Water temps are down to 49 and fishing has slowed. As soon as this weather clears we will be back into the great spring bite.

School is out this week and the way you know is kids are out fishing. A very fine school teacher from Garrison takes her class fishing each year. Way to go! Several boats volunteer to take the little units out for a couple of hours. 30 plus fish were caught in spite of the nasty weather. Cold, rainy and windy but an otherwise great day. Most fish were caught on a hump out in front of Centennial Bay on Lindys and minnows.

Perry does the filming for Gone Fishing and we planned the day to hit some nice weather. Light winds and very good temps made for a comfortable day filming. We found white bass, catfish and even a sucker but no walleyes. By 2 pm still no walleyes so I gave up on spots I fish and just went looking. By our second stop, bingo! We landed on a great location complete with a school of hungry walleyes. Water temp is 59-60 in the hook so fishing will be hot from now on. We finished the day with 2 limits and two channel cats. Perry released a 25 incher shown in the picture.
Thanks Perry, you are da man!

Forecast called for 20 to30 out of the south and they didn't miss it. We stayed on the south shore in hope of making a day out of an otherwise nasty fishing adventure. First stop we pulled cranks and got skunked so we made a move and more of the same, nothing. Our third stop Annette put in a great walleye and it proved to be the key to a great day. We moved back on the spot she picked up her fish and throughout the day continued to catch fish. Jigs in 7 feet, both vertical and dragging worked best. We even anchored for a while to rest from the windy conditions. Ended the day with 15 keepers. Water temp 48.

I didn't get on the lake until 1pm but it was a gorgeous day. However it was a typical day after cold front scenario. Exceptionally clear and no wind. I looked for fish in the Beaver Bay area and after 3 stops found a nice bunch of 18-20 inch walleyes in 12 feet. I was using a 1/4 once jig and fishing slow and vertical. Picked up a limit of 5 and was off the water by 5:30. Water temp is cold at 47 but Beaver is in the mid-section of the lake so it warms up late. The walleyes didn't seem to mind so why should I.

Chuck and I got on the water at Van Hook late but it still had not warmed up. We had a 40 degree temperature change from yesterday. We started in 5-7 feet and moved into 11-13 before we picked up any fish. Even then we had to coax them with a very slow drag on a jig and minnow. With 3 in the box by noon we moved and picked up two more for a days total of 5. We got bit off several times and felt like we were in the middle of a cold front. Spring weather and spring fishing are alike. Hot one day and cold the next. Water temp in the mid 50's with a 5 degree climb if you head into the back bays.

Numbers are to a very nice sand flat that is holding lots of fish. A day with good weather should make this place a fishing hole to remember.

The threesome headed out for the Lake at 6am. It's one of those perfect spring days. Light wind, high 70's and water temp already into the upper 50's. Just a few casts into our first spot and we were into the white bass and stayed in the white bass the entire time. I watched another boat put in a few very good walleyes and a northern so it was more than I could take. Off to the back of the bay for our second stop. We picked up two in 11 feet and made another move. Nothing at stop 3 so back to stop 2 and lucky for us. Released 5 over 24 and kept 9 great fish. Jigging in 4-7 feet with a fathead.
