Garrison Dam is the fifth largest dam in the United States. Construction of the Dam ran from 1947-1954 at a cost of $300 million. The dam is 210 feet high and two-and-a-half miles long. Nine million truckloads of dirt and 1 1/2 million cubic yards of concrete were needed to build this dam on the Missouri River. The Missouri River waters impounded by Garrison Dam, completed in 1956, formed Lake Sakakawea. The Corps of Engineers' largest lake, 168 miles long with 1600 miles of shoreline!
A fisherman's paradise!
